Canoeing

Our fleet of 'Old Town 158's, two or three in a boat learn to work together. Enjoy the beauty of the upper reaches of the River Bure, well away from motorboats. Canoe trips for the more experienced paddlers.
Archery
The Centre has a small archery range and qualified archery instructors. Sessions may be run as beginners courses for those who have never handled a bow, or based around those who have some experience of shooting.
Climbing, Abseiling, Zip Wire

The Centre now has its own unique climbing facilities in the form of a purpose built climbing tower. We are able to offer climbing and abseiling on site, as well as a zip wire for fun and excitement. There are 13 different climbing routes varying from the easy to very difficult complete with overhangs.
The cave can be used for bouldering as well as climbing. There are two abseiling routes, either down through the cave or from the top platform. The zip wire is also now in use across the garden. Sessions vary from just climbing or abseiling to climbing and abseiling together.
The zip wire can be a separate activity or enjoy the whole tower experience and have a go on everything.
Low and High Ropes Courses
The Ropes courses offer a unique and exciting challenge to those who wish to participate. The Low Ropes course is a series of traversable elements a few feet from the ground. These include such things as a Sandwich net, Pullseat and a Burma bridge. The course is suitable for all ages.
The High Ropes course features similar elements, only these elements are 6 metres (fifteen feet) off the ground, suspended between trees! Full safety equipment is provided and no group is left unsupervised on the courses. This is suitable for children of secondary school age.
Additionally, the Centre also has a Jacob's Ladder for groups to try. The Jacob's Ladder is a series of long horizontal poles hung above each other some four feet apart, increasing in distance as you climb higher. The top of the Jacob's Ladder is almost forty feet off the ground! The task is for 2 or 3 people to help each other climb to the top.
Junior Orienteering
A small but complex orienteering course can be set up in the Centre grounds for junior groups wishing to learn a new skill, or a larger one can be used which goes slightly further afield.
Rope Bridging
One of Horstead's most popular activities during the summer, the rope bridge is usually run together with raft making to provide an added element of fun to the proceedings. Prepare to get wet!
Improvised Raft Making
Think you can build a raft? Okay, think you can row it across a river with two of your friends hanging onto it? Okay, think you can get all of your friends from one side of the river to the other by rowing them across in turn? Okay... think you can do it before the other teams do? Raft making is another popular activity in the summer. Water guaranteed.
Night Walks
As well as adrenaline filled excitement, the Centre also offers slightly less tiring activities to calm groups down of an evening. A number of planned walks can be taken from the Centre, either during the day or night. Each is well known and guides are provided, to help you choose the right walk for your group.
Team and Initiative Tasks

Think you can work well in a team? Well, why not find out? A number of different team tasks are available, ranging from the physical to the mental. Groups are split up into small teams and moved in turn around the various tasks, and a self assessment of each success or failure is encouraged.
FUN!
FUN! Hopefully. Well you'd have to be pretty miserable to do all that stuff and still not have any fun. But we'll try and make sure you do. Enjoy yourself.
Sailing
The centre owns and has access to a number of keelboats which are frequently used on the nearby Broads. As well as offering children of most age groups an opportunity to learn to sail, the Centre is also a recognised RYA teaching establishment and runs a number of keelboat courses during the year.
